Course structure and Curriculum
The MCA course is the only AICTE approved course on campus. In the six semesters of study, students learn 13 Core CS papers, 7 Elective papers and 10 practicals. The VI semester is exclusively set apart for doing a project work the in an industry/college. The MCA curriculum incorporates the emerging technologies and practices used in the IT industry. The curriculum is designed and periodically updated to be on par with the syllabi of several leading universities, and in consultation with our Industry patrons and the Alumni of the department. The highlight of the program is that students are trained not only to have hands-on experience in their regular lab works, but also trained to design and develop applications in almost all the subjects of study through case-studies.

Research Collaboration and Projects
The Department of Computer Science in collaboration with Christian Medical College Vellore and Liverpool Hope University, UK, is actively pursuing research in the area of Medical Image Processing, Data Mining and Natural Language Processing. The collaboration and active research was initiated by Ms. Feminna Sheeba, Associate Professor in the department. She visited Liverpool Hope University, UK in August, 2011 and March, 2012 to present the work. Research Projects are carried out involving development of applications in the above areas. Final year MCA students actively involve in the development of applications. Some of the students take this development work as part of the VI Semester Project Work.
International Partnership
-
International Partnership
The department offers a Trimester course to the IT students of Sungkonghoe University (SKHU), South Korea on their India Window Program (IWP) from January to November 2017. As per the requirement of SKHU, this programme focuses on Java and Android including the subjects Java Programming I & II, Advanced Java, Java Frameworks and Android. The last semester is exclusively for an industry based internship.

Orientation Program for I MCA
The MCA classes start with an Orientation Program offered by the department for three days, so that the students gel with the ethos of the College and the department.
Techwoods
Techwoods is an annual National Level Technical Symposium conducted by the Department, with the aim of providing our students with the opportunity to interact with the students of other Universities/Colleges and offering them a platform to sharpen their problem-solving, programing, and team-playing skills. Students also bring out an annual technical magazine during that time called Techchip with articles and creative writings.
Community Outreach
Students help the extension units of the college by handling their computer skills classes. Every year, the final year students of MCA, spend a day in the Family Life Institute, Mappedu, as part of their training ‘Personality Development and Personnel Management’ exercising team playing for a good cause.
Training
Training called ‘Personal Excellence and Personnel Management’ is offered to the final year MCA students. The training focuses on Shaping up the attitudes and developing the soft skills of the students. The Training topics are aptitude, mental ability, logical reasoning, communication skills, assertive behavior, team playing, time management, stress managementand integrity. Some of the training methods offered are Games, exercises, public speaking, tests, group discussions and role playing. The training ends with a team work for a good cause in FLI, Mappedu.
Study Tour
The students conduct an annual department study tour. The tour is enriched by various Industrial visits, Field trips and useful sightseeing.
