The Department of History, established in 1887, is one of the oldest departments in the College. Apart from a regular B.A. course in History, the department also offers a vocational course with specialization in Archaeology and Museology at the undergraduate level since 1994. The department has arrangements with the Government Museum and the State Archives, Government to provide practical exposure to the students of the vocational course.
The syllabi of both the undergraduate and postgraduate courses are geared to equip students to face competitive exams like Civil Services and UGC NET / SLET. Keeping in tune with the changing times, the department has introduced papers of contemporary relevance like Gender Studies, Human Rights, International Relations, Indian Art, Historiography and Research Methodology, etc.
