The Academic Audit of the English Department was held on 22.6.09. The External experts were Dr. S.P. Dhanavel, Professor and Head English Department, Anna University; Dr. Evangeline Manickam, Professor, Humanities and Social Sciences Department, I.I.T. Madras and Dr. D. Joseph Chandra, Reader, English Department Loyola College. The Academic Audit is the preliminary stage of the overall accreditation process insisted upon by the N.A.A.C. of India. The team members intensely interacted with both the staff and the students for more than two hours. They thoroughly inspected the departmental library and were appreciative of the large collection of well maintained books. The report of the academic audit is displayed below. Madras Christian College (Autonomous) Academic Audit of Departments Format for Final Report (filled in form to be submitted by the Team after the audit on the day of audit) Departments: ENGLISH a) Strengths: High academic orientation, excellent faculty-student rapport, well-stacked library, stress-free environment b) Best Practices: Choice-based Credit System, Continuous Internal Assessment, Career-Oriented courses and Placement facility c) Areas of Concern: Technology input in teaching and learning process, inadequate internet facilities and audio-visual aids d) Recommendation for future direction: Benefits of technology should be made available to students and teachers. Scholarly Journals and books on general topics should be added to the library. Mass media and communication related elective courses should be introduced. A college book store can help students. Examination reforms should be undertaken. Basic facilities should be enhanced to match the increased number of students. Separate Library Hours should be allotted for B.A. and M.A..
